Decatur Girls Keep Mardela In Sights

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s girls’ varsity basketball team stayed on a roll this week, beating Wicomico and Snow Hill on back-to-back days to keep within one game of Bayside South-leading Mardela with just a handful of games remaining.

The Seahawks beat Wicomico, 57-30, on the road on Monday, then traveled to Snow Hill on Tuesday when they beat the Eagles, 57-30. Against Snow Hill on Tuesday, Dayona Godwin led the Seahawks with 19 points, while Marina Jones added 11.

With the pair of wins this week, the Seahawks kept pace with Mardela near the top of the Bayside South standings. Decatur handed the Warriors their first loss of the season last week to pull within one game in the conference standings. Also in the mix is Pocomoke, which is just a game behind Decatur. All three teams won their games this week so little changed.

However, Mardela plays Pocomoke on the road on Monday. The Seahawks play Bennett on Friday, weather permitting, and an non-conference game with Indian River on Monday followed by a road games against Kent Island on Tuesday. The Seahawks finish the regular season on the road next Friday against Parkside.
