OCEAN CITY — A Dover man was arrested on drunk-driving and other charges last week after leading Ocean City Police on a chase that ended in a collision with an electrical box that knocked out power in the downtown area.

Around 2:40 a.m. last Friday, Ocean City Police on patrol in the area of Coastal Highway and 100th Street observed a vehicle traveling southbound at a high rate of speed. OCPD officers attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of 62nd Street, but the vehicle continued southbound at a high rate of speed.

The driver, later identified as Alex Ryan Little, 24, of Dover, continued to travel southbound on Philadelphia Ave. at a high rate of speed until his vehicle failed to negotiate a turn at North Division Street, struck the center median and collided with an electrical box.

The electrical box caught fire and power was briefly disrupted in the south end of Ocean City. Traffic on Route 50 was also disrupted as OCPD officers closed both the eastbound and westbound lanes of the span for about 30 minutes due to the collision.

Little was arrested and charged with two counts of driving under the influence, driving while impaired, eluding uniformed police, negligent driving, reckless driving and multiple traffic violations. Neither Little nor any OCPD officers were injured during the incident.

Little was taken before a District Court Commissioner and was released on a $25,000 bond.
