A Week In Business

Program Honored
BERLIN — Apple Discount Drugs has been recognized with a “Certificate of Achievement” for outstanding success with the FLAVORx program. Apple was honored for its commitment to improving patient care and commitment to developing the pharmacy business as a runner-up finalist in the 2013 FLAVORx Independent Pharmacy of the Year Award contest.
“We understand the struggles parents face with their children when it is ‘time to take their medicine’,” said Jeff Sherr, President, Apple Discount Drugs. “Apple enrolled in the FLAVORx program in to help families prevent anxiety and stress at medicine time. Even as adults, we cringe when a medication tastes awful and just doesn’t go down smoothly. FLAVORx offers fifteen different flavors for customers to choose from which may end up being the only reason little Johnny takes all of his medicine.”
FLAVORx can be used with thousands of liquid medications – from your everyday antibiotics used to treat strep throat and ear infections to more specialized drugs used to treat less common conditions. Apple Pharmacists can inform the customer which flavors are recommended for the medication that has been prescribed.

Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of judges and finalists will be recognized for their contributions to the Worcester County economy. Businesses selected will be featured in a “Best Places to Work” video that will be shared on social media outlets, including the WCED YouTube Channel.
“It is important that our citizens and our young adults who are graduating from school understand that there are exciting, family supporting career opportunities right here in our county,” WCED Director Bill Badger said. “There are a number of outstanding employers providing valuable, year-round employment opportunities in top industries, including technology, tourism, manufacturing and agriculture that should be recognized for their contributions.”
To qualify, each business should provide full-time, year-round, family-supporting jobs in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) disciplines, tourism, agriculture or other areas that offer career tracks for young adults. Nominations close Jan. 17, 2014. Winners will be announced Jan. 31.
The Best Places to Work initiative is sponsored by the Video Lottery Terminal (VOLT) fund, a Maryland program that provides low-interest business loans to small, minority, and woman owned businesses.
