BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity basketball team routed visiting Holly Grove, 67-32, on Monday to improve to 4-1 on the young season.
After falling to Salisbury Christian, 51-49, back on December 3, the Mallards have now reeled off three straight wins including two over Greenwood Mennonite in a home-away series last week and the 67-32 win over Holly Grove at home on Monday. On December 5, the Mallards cruised past Greenwood, 60-36, and followed that with another win over Greenwood on the road last Friday, 52-42, in a game that was not as close as the score appears.
Worcester led 17-7 after one quarter, but Greenwood played the Mallards relatively even in the second quarter and Worcester took a 26-15 lead into halftime. In the third quarter, Worcester settled the issue with an 18-8 run to take a 44-23 lead into the final quarter. In the fourth, Greenwood mounted a comeback largely against the Worcester reserves and outscored the Mallards 19-8 in the period, but the damage had been done and the gamed ended at 52-42.
Against Holly Grove on Monday, Worcester got out to an early lead again and never looked back, winning 67-32 at home. The Mallards were scheduled to play Chincoteague on the road on Wednesday in the last game before the holiday break and will return to action against the Ponies again at home on January 7.
