Fall Flag Football Playoffs Underway

OCEAN CITY- The Ocean City Recreation and Parks Fall Flag Football League playoffs got underway last week and are working toward a championship next week.
In the opening round, the Eastside Mafia blanked the BACKers, 22-0, while Seaquest beat Johnny’s Pizza, 19-0. Seaquest then knocked off Eastside Mafia, 33-24, to advance. On the other side of the bracket, the Bull Assassins beat the FOP, 36-6, in the opening round, while Kirby’s Red Onion edged Delmar, 8-6, in a low scoring game. The Bull Assassins then beat Kirby’s Red Onion, 33-24, to advance on the winner’s bracket.
In the loser’s bracket, Johnny’s Pizza shut out the BACKers, 30-0, to advance and will face Kirby’s Red Onion with a chance to move on. Delmar eliminated the FOP to advance with a shot at getting back in the winner’s bracket.
Meanwhile, the up-to-date individual statistics were released this week. Charlie McCaffrey leads the league in touchdowns thrown with 39, followed by Ray Taranto with 27 and Ryan Gartland with 25. Dennis Eade, Greg Lasinski and Todd Murphy are all tied for the lead in rushing touchdowns with three, with Taranto, Gartland and Zak Keenan tied for second with two each.
Brandon Ball leads the league in receiving touchdowns with 12, while Tyler Boyle, Kyle Swayngim and Mac Williams are tied for second with eight apiece. Patrick Spicer leads the league in kicking points with 45, followed by Adam Rones with 37, Jeremy Stewart with 25 and John “Doc” Maniatty with 16.
On the defensive side of the stat sheet, Jay Manuel leads the league in quarterback sacks with 18, followed by D.J. Johnson with 14 and Chip Cuffee with nine. Brandon Ball and Vince Stewart are tied for the lead in interceptions with five each, followed by Jose Flores with four. Four players are tied for third with three. Mac Williams leads the league in defensive touchdowns with three.
