Mallards Fall to Salisbury Christian, Cape

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity soccer team lost its first two games of the season this week to drop to 5-2-1 on the year.
The Mallards got off to a fast start to the season winning five games and losing none with the only blemish a 2-2 tie with Delmar back on September 13. Last week, the Mallards beat Delmarva Christian, 7-2, on the strength of five first-half goals to improve to 5-0-1 on the season.
Since then, however, the Worcester boys have dropped two in a row, including a 4-0 loss on the road against Salisbury Christian last Friday followed by another 4-0 loss to Cape Henlopen on the road on Tuesday. Against Cape, the Mallards hung with the Vikings for much of the game and trailed only 1-0 at the half. However, Cape got its offensive attack rolling with three second-half goals to decide the outcome. The Mallards will face ESIAC rival Gunston at home this afternoon, followed by three straight road games against Delmarva Christian, Salisbury School and Seaford.
