Mallards Snuff Depleted Dragons, 6-0

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s girls’ varsity soccer team cruised past host Salisbury School last Thursday, 6-0, to improve to 1-1 on the season.
The Mallards hit the road for a game against injury-plagued Salisbury School, which only fielded 11 players in the contest and had no reserves available. After forcing the issue for much of the first half, Worcester finally broke through on a goal by Olivia Bescak about 12 minutes into the game for a 1-0 lead.
About four minutes later, Worcester’s Lilly DiNardo scored on a long shot outside the box to extend the lead to 2-0. Sophie Brennan scored again for Worcester with about two minutes left in the half, and Amanda Gabriel tallied just before intermission to stake the Mallards to a 4-0 lead at the break.
DiNardo scored again early in the second half to extend the lead to 5-0. Regan Shanahan completed the scoring for the Mallards, who cruised to the 6-0 win over their Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC) rival. The Mallards’ record now stands at 1-1. The Worcester girls face Saints Peter and Paul on the road this afternoon, before facing Gunston next Friday in the first of four straight home games. The home stretch also includes games against Salisbury School, Salisbury Christian and Saints Peter and Paul again.
