Decatur Golfers Fall by 4 Strokes at Bay Club

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity golf team suffered its first loss of the season this week, falling to Washington High by four strokes at the Bay Club.
Washington’s Chase Benton led all golfers in the Bayside match at the Bay Club on Tuesday with a low score of 35 to earn the medal and lead the Jags over the Seahawks by just four strokes. Decatur’s Andrew Urban was second with a 36, while Washington’s Justin Benton shot a 39. Delaney Iacona shot a 30 for Decatur, while Brooks Holloway shot a 42, Danny Parker shot a 45 and Matt Kristick finished in 46.
Despite the four-stroke loss on Tuesday, which dropped Decatur’s record to 3-1, the Seahawks still lead the Bayside South standings with seven total team points. Washington is second with 11, while Bennett is third with 19. In the standings, a team is awarded one point for a win, two points for a second place finish etc.
Urban still leads the Bayside South individual standings with an average score of 37.83 after six matches. Chase Benton moved into second place this week by virtue of his win at the Bay Club on Tuesday and now has an average score of 39.17. Decatur golfers round out the rest of the top six in the standings with Iacona at 39.33, Parker at 40, Kristick at 40.33 and Holloway at 40.67.
