OCEAN CITY- Ocean City resident and power lifter Mike Hedlesky last week competed in the Classic Raw Men’s World Championships in Russia and brought home a gold medal with a near world record lift.

Hedlesky last week competed as part of the U.S. team at the Classic Raw Men’s World Championships in Suzdal, Russia against some of the best power lifters from all over the world. He won the gold medal with a 777-pound dead lift despite competing with a torn quad muscle and a broken foot. The U.S. team finished in second place in the world championships and Hedlesky finished eighth overall.

Hedlesky’s 777-pound dead lift was just seven pounds short of a new world record and he already vowed to smash that record next year. Hedlesky was back in Ocean City by Monday night and was not ready to rest on his laurels. Despite his injuries, he was back in training by Tuesday morning for the nationals in Orlando in five weeks.
