OCEAN CITY- Local trainer and versatile athlete Corrine Banks will once again hit the world stage next month when she competes in the 2013 International Triathlon Union World Championships in the Netherlands.

Banks, a single mom who works as a personal trainer, fitness instructor and nutritional consultant among other things at WOC Fitness in West Ocean City, competes in regional, national and soon international events from 5K to 50-mile races and from marathons and half marathons and iron man competitions. She recently added Stand-Up Paddle to her repertoire and finished second an event earlier this month in Ocean City.

Last summer, Banks finished third in her age group in a national trail competition in Oregon, which qualified her for the Xterra Trail Running World Championships in Hawaii. She was bitten by a dog just a week before the competition in Hawaii, but despite the injury and the grueling trail course up and down steep cliffs and through rainforests and across beaches, Banks finished 85th overall among the nearly 700 competitors in the race and was 11th among the 230 women in the competition and third in her age group.

Next month, Banks will compete as a member of Team USA at the 2013 ITU World Championships in the Netherlands on July 13. Just as with the dog bite days before the world championships in Hawaii last year, Banks has been dealing with adversity as she prepares to head to the Netherlands next month. Earlier this year, she suffered a serious fire at her residence that left her temporarily homeless.
