Louise C. Grant
BERLIN — Louise C. Grant passed away peacefully in her home on July 13, 2012.
She was born on April 19, 1923. She married Earl B. Grant of Alexandria, Va. on Feb. 19, 1945. She was dedicated to her family and her church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; son, David Earl of Ocean City; her son, Charles (Chuck) Grant of St. Cloud, Fla.; her daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Grant of Berlin; and her brother, Charles L. Angle of Towson.
Survivors are her daughter, Sharon L. Patton of Fort Washington, Md. and son-in-law, Kevin; granddaughter, Kimberly Novak of Palm Bay, Fla.; grandson, Kimo Grant-Johnson of Ocean City; two great grandchildren, Sierra and Bryce, both of Palm Bay, Fla.; and many other friends and family members.
A celebration of her life will be held on April 20, 2013 at Atlantic United Methodist Church in Ocean City at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Atlantic United Methodist Church, 105 4th Street, Ocean City, Md. 21842.
Charles A. Rouse
BERLIN — Charles Alan (Charlie) Rouse died peacefully at home on April 4, 2013, after a brave struggle with myelodisplastic syndrome (MDS), a blood disorder presumed to be caused by exposure to Agent Orange while serving his country in Vietnam.
Born Sept. 1, 1944, the son of Emma Mae Kearney Rouse and Marvin W. Rouse, he was raised on the family farm in Snow Hill, N.C.
After graduation from N.C. State University, he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1967. He served in the infantry in ground combat in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968 until he was honored to provide military escort of a childhood friend who was killed in combat. He completed his military service term stateside. Prior to his honorable discharge, he was awarded two Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal and numerous other medals awarded his unit for meritorious service. After his military service, he enjoyed a stellar career in animal pharmaceuticals for over 30 years. He retired in 2007 and was diagnosed with MDS in 2011.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Stephen Reynolds Rouse and Lemon Wayne (Sandy) Rouse; and his sister, Jean Rouse Preston. He is survived by his wife, Deedee Edwards Rouse; his brother, Tommy Rouse and wife, Sandy; aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; cousins; extended family members; and treasured friends too numerous to name, whom he cherished more than words can express.
Funeral services were held in Snow Hill, N.C. Interment followed at the Mewborn Church Cemetery.
Our family wishes to express our sincerest appreciation to everyone whose kindness and support helped us through this difficult time, especially Dr. James Martin and the staff of Peninsula Oncology, the patient care staff of PRMC 2 South, Infusion Center and Berlin office.
