BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s boys’ varsity baseball team dropped a pair of games this week against Bayside South rivals Parkside and Bennett to fall back to .500 on the young season.
The Seahawks started the season with a 3-1 record after wins over Pocomoke, Washington and Snow Hill last Thursday, their only loss coming to Crisfield in the second game of the year. However, Decatur lost two straight this week to Parkside on Monday and Bennett on Tuesday to drop back to 3-3 on the year.
On Monday, the Seahawks fell 12-5 to Parkside on the road. Back at home on Tuesday, Decatur ran into a buzz saw on the mound and got little going offensively against the Clippers in a 7-0 loss. Decatur’s best scoring opportunity came in the fourth when Chase Coursey and Justin Meekins led off with back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second with no outs.
The runners were stranded, however, and the Clippers went on to cruise past the Seahawks, 7-0. Decatur will attempted to get back in the win column yesterday in at Wicomico in a game played too late to be included in this edition. The Seahawks will face Mardela at home on Saturday.
