BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s boys’ varsity lacrosse team ran into a couple of tough early season games last week, falling to Bayside North power Kent Island on Tuesday before dropping a close one to St. Mary’s Ryken in a holiday weekend tournament at South River.
After routing Parkside, 18-8, in the season opener, the Seahawks got another early season test at home against Kent Island last Tuesday. Kent Island dominated the first half and got out to a big lead before Decatur scratched and clawed its way back into the contest in the second half. The rally fell short, however, and the Seahawks lost 10-7.
Last weekend, Decatur traveled across the Chesapeake to participate in the South River Invitational and drew a tough opponent in St. Mary’s Ryken. The Seahawks suffered a couple of injuries to key players early in the contest, but hung close with St. Mary’s before falling 12-8. St. Mary’s went on to beat host South River in the tournament championship game, 8-7. The Seahawks have a couple of home games next week including Wicomico on Monday and Queen Anne’s on Wednesday.
