Edward F. Tilling Jr.
BERLIN — On Nov. 17, 2012, Edward F. Tilling Jr., 79, passed away peacefully in his home in Berlin.

Born in Baltimore in 1933, Edward was the son of the late Edward F. Tilling Sr., and Mary Maule Tilling.  

He was a 1951 graduate of Mt. St. Joseph High School and retired from Bell Atlantic after 37 years of service.

An avid Baltimore sports fan, Ed was a devoted family man who loved to travel and was especially proud of his Irish heritage. When he wasn’t traveling to his beloved Ireland, Edward was an active member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Knights of Columbus, as well as St. Benedict Church, where he volunteered much of his time, until moving to Berlin in 2007, to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren.  

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Bernadette “Betsy” Tilling (nee Murphy); his three children, Eric J., Kurt F. and Laura Simmons; his son-in-law, James Simmons; his grandchildren, Felecia BenZakan and Logan Simmons; and his sister, Frances Hensley, of Dallas, Texas.

A memorial service to celebrate Ed’s life will take place on Saturday, Nov. 24 at the 4 p.m. mass at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 2612 Wilkens Ave., Baltimore.  Donations can be made in memory of Mr. Tilling to St. Benedict Church.

Ruth Ellen Egger
OCEAN CITY — Ruth Ellen Egger, age 70, of Ocean City, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2012 at home.

She was born in Salisbury and was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Hilyard) Adkins.  

She was a member of SonRise Church in Berlin.  

She is survived by two sons, Raymond W. Davis and his wife Tracy of Pittsville and Darren D. Davis and his wife Janet of Berlin; three daughters, Dawn L. Pruitt and her husband Edwin of Bishopville, Sonya D. Brow and her husband Dave of Berlin and Kimberly J. Smith of Ocean City; 12 grandchildren, Hunter Davis, Zachary Davis, Dillon Davis, Brooke Davis, Brent Pruitt, Kevin Pruitt, Brandon Mcternan, Pamela Hall, Karl Hall, Haley Brow, Jason Smith and Chelsea Smith; and two great-grandchildren, Cole Jones and Jack Jones. She is also survived by a loving companion, her dog, Sophie.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Friday, Nov. 30 at Hastings Funeral Home in Selbyville with Pastor Daryl McCready officiating.  

Friends were asked to call on Thursday, Nov. 29 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and also on Friday, Nov. 30 an hour before the service. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Berlin.

Elaine T. Houck
BALTIMORE — On Nov. 27, 2012, Elaine T. Houck of Baltimore, Md., passed away.

She was the beloved wife of the late George Houck; loving mother of John Gaske (Linda), Paul Murphy, Ronald Murphy and Margaret Hood (Troy); dear sister of Lori Hellman and Jerry Schaum (Marina); cherished grandmother of Denny, Dana, Leanna, Ronnie, Tyler, Elizabeth and Brianna; and great grandmother of three. She lived in north Ocean City and was a member of the Quilter’s by the Sea.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Sterling Ashton Schwab Witzke Funeral Home of Catonsville, Inc., 1630 Edmondson Ave., Catonsville, Md. 21228 on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 from 9 to 11 am, where a memorial service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. Inurnment will be held at St. John’s Cemetery.
