BERLIN- The Berlin Little League All-Star teams got off to a fast start in division play last week with one team winning its Tournament of Champions by edging Worcester County rival Snow Hill in an exciting finish.
The Berlin All-Star Tournament of Champions team beat Willards, 9-2, in the opener of the tournament, then beat West Salisbury, 9-3, to reach the tournament championship against Worcester County rival Snow Hill. The game came down to the last out of the last inning. Snow Hill had a man on third with two outs with Berlin leading, 5-4. On a hard hit ball to the infield, the Snow Hill runner ran home and was tagged out at the plate as Berlin preserved a 5-4 victory to win the tournament.
In other action, the Berlin Junior League All-Stars advanced in their first game, beating Delmar, 9-7. Bailey Littleton was the winning pitcher, striking out four and collecting two hits to help his own cause. Pat Devenny also had two hits for Berlin, including a double. The Berlin Junior League All-Stars will face Fruitland on Saturday in the second round.
The Berlin 10-11 All-Stars also got off to a fast start, clobbering East Wicomico, 31-0, in the opening round of division play. Matt Kinsey was the winning pitcher. Kevin Beck went 4-5 at the plate and scored four runs. Hayden Snelshire and Tristan McDonough each went 3-4 at the plate and each hit two home runs. The Berlin 10-11 All-Stars faced West Salisbury in the second round last night in a game played too late to be included in this edition.
The Berlin 9-10 All-Stars fell to Delmar, 15-4, last Sunday before dropping a close one, 6-5, to Princess Anne on Tuesday. The 9-10 All-Stars will attempt to get back on the winning track tonight against Fruitland at home.
