Mallards Cruise to Tournament Title

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity lacrosse team punctuated another successful season by breezing through the Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC) tournament including a 14-1 win over Salisbury School in the championship game.

Worcester beat Delmarva Christian, 18-2 in the semifinals before closing out Salisbury School, 14-1, in the championship game. The Mallards outscored the conference tournament foes by a combined 32-3. Against Delmarva Christian in the semifinals, Harrison Brennan and Gordon Abercrombie led the Mallards’ offensive attach with four goals and one assist each.

Ryan McGuire and Jake Emche each scored twice and contributed two assists apiece, while Chris Bragg, Zach Jacobs and Henry Hastings each added single tallies. The easy win over Delmarva Christian set up a rematch in the ESIAC tournament finals with the Dragons last Friday.

Worcester scored early and led 2-0 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Mallards scored five times, extending their lead to 7-1 at the intermission. Worcester settled the issue once and for all with a six-goal third quarter to extend the lead to 13-1 and added a late tally in the fourth to close out the championship win. McGuire led the Mallards with five goals, while Emche scored three times. Brennan and Hastings each scored twice, while Alec Zarif and Abercrombie each added single tallies.
