St. Patrick’s 5K A Huge Success

OCEAN CITY- With over 1,000 racers competing, the 2nd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Boardwalk 5K last Saturday was a huge success with good weather and big crowds.

Sponsored by OC Tri-Running Sports, the St. Patrick’s Day Boardwalk 5K last Saturday drew over 1,000 competitors for the second annual race. The course started at Shenanigans and headed south on the Boardwalk toward the Inlet where it looped around the pier and headed north. From there, runners continued north on the Boardwalk to a turnaround point at 15th Street before finishing up again at Shenanigans.

The weather cooperated with overcast skies and temperatures hovering around the 60-degree mark. The big field of competitors complicated the event somewhat, however, including a congested finish chute along with a few glitches in the chip timing system. Nonetheless, the event was a huge success with Diakonia as the beneficiary.

For the record, Joshua Sherrod of Moline, Ill. was the top finisher, coming in at 17:04.9, while Matthew Rosborg of Arnold was second and Scott Mooney of Baltimore was third. The top female finisher and fourth overall was Cara Wettlaufer of Nottingham, Md. The top 10 local finishers included Sean Rolleston, Berlin, (7th); Christopher Stanley, Fruitland, (8th); Christopher David, Ocean City, (9th); Jon Metro, Berlin, (10th); Joe Schneider, Ocean City (15th); Lindsey Buckman, Berlin, (18th); Melissa Denault, Berlin, (20th); Brandon Phillips, Ocean City, (23rd); Don Parana, Berlin, (24th); and Ben Pollmeier, Ocean City, (27th).
