BERLIN- Newly appointed Worcester Prep boys’ varsity soccer coach Terry Underkoffler comes with impressive credentials including coaching and evaluating young players for the U.S. Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program.

Underkoffler, an Ocean Pines resident, was recently appointed to replace longtime Worcester Prep varsity coach Tom Westcott, who stepped down last fall after patrolling the sidelines at Worcester for the last 35 years. Replacing the popular Westcott, who recorded his 300th win at Worcester last fall, will not be easy, but Underkoffler certainly appears to be up to the task.

The U.S. Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program for girls is holding its national development camp this month at the Charlie Kellogg and Joe Zahler Sports Complex in Las Vegas and more than 190 invitation-only players will attend the event. Players will come together from all over the country to train and play alongside fellow elite athletes.

As a Region I goalkeeper coach, Underkoffler will be on the coaching staff that will train, coach and evaluate players in practice and in competition. He has been on the Region I Girls’ Olympic Development Program staff since 1981.

When Underkoffler is not patrolling the sidelines for the U.S. Olympic Development Program, he is on the technology staff at Worcester Prep. His roles include helping teachers with computers, interactive whiteboards and other digital devices. He will take over the Worcester Prep boys’ varsity program starting in the 2012-2013 school year and is looking forward to taking over the highly successful program.
