Dorothy Joan Waterman

BERLIN — Dorothy Joan Waterman of South Point, Berlin, died Sept. 29, 2011 at her home of complications from COPD.

She was born in Providence, R.I. in 1929 and grew up in Springfield, Mass. Dorothy graduated from Classical High School in 1947 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Pre-Med from Perdue University in 1951. She met and married Hawley Waterman in 1954 and moved to Princeton, NJ in 1956 where Mr. Waterman was the Athletic Director at the Hun School.

While in Princeton, Mrs. Waterman was very active in the Girl Scouts and The Order of the Eastern Star. She also worked in various administrative capacities at the Hun School for 17 years. Dorothy and her husband retired to Berlin in 1994.

Mrs. Waterman is survived by her husband; daughter, Barbara Waterman of Hopewell, N.J.; son, Hawley Waterman, III of Suffolk, Va.; daughter, Gail Rogers of Georgetown, Texas; son, Scott Waterman of Chesapeake, Va.; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Oct. 14, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at the Bethany United Methodist Church in Berlin. The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21802 or Atlantic General Hospital, 9733 Healthway Dr., Berlin, Md. 21811.

Arrangements are being handled by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

Bernadine M. Sewell

OCEAN CITY — Bernadine McLaughlin Sewell, 86, died on Sept. 29, 2011 in Baltimore.

Born in Middleport, Pa. she had lived in Dundalk, Md. and Ocean City.

She was retired from Parks Sausage and also worked at Goetz’s Meats.

She was an avid bingo player and a member of American Legion Post 166.

She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Frederick S. Sewell.

She is survived by her son, Gary F. Koppenhaver; daughters, Sheila S Schone, Gail M. Harris and Melanie S. Konoski; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Holy Spirit on 100th Street in Ocean City on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m.
