We Remember Those We Have Lost

Samuel M. Landis

CRALEY, Pa. — Samuel M. Landis, 67, of Craley, Pa., died at 8:05 a.m. on Sunday June 26, 2011 at his home after a hard fought battle with cancer. He was the husband of Ruth Anne (Shindler) Landis, to whom he was married for 47 years.

Born Aug. 13, 1943, in Lancaster, he was a son of Samuel M. Landis of York and the late Edythe M. (Oster) Landis. He was retired from Caterpillar, Inc., and had worked for White Oak Printing Company after retirement. He was an avid fisherman, member of the Ocean City Marlin Club and had been a charter boat captain in Ocean City.

In addition to his wife and father, Mr. Landis is survived by a son, Andrew P. Landis and his wife Jessica, of York; a daughter, Kellyn R. Landis of Craley; three grandsons, Brandon Topper, Chase Landis, and Connor Landis, all of York; three brothers, Michael R. Landis and his wife Melissa, of York, Robin A. Landis and his wife Carla, of Brogue, and Thomas P. Landis and his wife Cynthia, of Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday July 9, 2011 at William E. Little Funeral Homes, 60 South Main Street, Manchester. A visitation with the family will follow the service. Burial will be private. The family requests that guests wear casual attire.

Amelia Gordon “Mimi” Ward

OCEAN PINES — On June 23, 2011, Amelia Ward (nee Amelia Cheek Gordon) passed away peacefully at her home in Ocean Pines.

She was the beloved sister of Sally Gordon Roberts; beloved life partner of James B. Young; daughter of William Harrison Gordon and Amelia Cheek Gordon; and cousin of David Walker Barton, Frances Gorman King and Sally Barton Willse.

Mimi was a graduate of Vassar College, Garrison Forest School and Calvert School, with an MBA from George Washington University. She worked for both the Rouse Corporation and later the Baltimore Regional Planning Council. She served as community administrator for Baltimore’s Cold Spring New Town Community, where she was an original owner and lived for many years. She was a longtime board member of the Koinania Foundation in Baltimore and, in retirement, on the board of the Mid-Atlantic Symphony, for which she established the MSO Endowment Fund and the MSO Reserve Fund.


A service was held at the Church of the Redeemer at 5603 North Charles Street in Baltimore on Wednesday, June 29, at 10:30 a.m. A future service will be held in the Ocean Pines area, where she retired in 2002.
