OCEAN CITY — A West Virginia man was arrested on attempted first-degree rape and other charges this week after allegedly attacking a woman on a north-end beach early Tuesday morning.
Around 3 a.m. on Tuesday, Ocean City police interviewed an unidentified woman who reported she had been attacked on the beach from behind by a man later identified as Chance Daniel Bucy, 21, of Falling Waters, W. Va. The victim told police she was walking back to her hotel alone in the 130th Street area after getting separated from her friends when she first encountered Bucy.
Bucy allegedly told the victim he was a local who lived in the area and that he knew a couple of short cuts that could get her back to her hotel. The victim told police Bucy later came up from behind her, placed his hand over her mouth and forced her to the ground. The victim attempted to shout for help, but Bucy continued to cover her mouth.
After a woman responded to the victim’s cries for help, Bucy ran off, but OCPD officers located him at 123rd Street. Bucy admitted hitting the victim several times and shoving her head into the sand. Bucy was charged with attempted first-degree rape, first- and second-degree assault and false imprisonment.
