Mallards Win 3rd Straight ESIAC Title

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity lacrosse team thumped visiting Gunston, 11-3, last Friday to claim their third straight Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC) title.

The Mallards beat Delmarva Christian, 19-1, last Wednesday in the conference tournament semifinals to set up a familiar rematch with Gunston in the title game. Worcester beat Gunston, 15-4, in the 2009 ESIAC championship game and captured the 2010 conference title by beating the Herons, 16-5, last year. Last Friday, the Mallards completed the three-peat with a 11-3 win over Gunston.

The conference tournament title completed another successful season for the Mallards, who started the 2010 campaign by winning their first eight games. Included in the streak were big wins over Delaware powers Salesianum and Tower Hill. Worcester dropped just three games during the season, including its first loss to St. Mary’s Ryken, 15-10, during its invitational tournament, and a triple-overtime 8-7 loss to neighborhood rival Stephen Decatur.
