AGH A Toyota Finalist

BERLIN — Worcester County’s Atlantic General Hospital is one of 500 finalists in Toyota’s 100 Cars for Good program, which will award vehicles to 100 nonprofit organizations based on votes from the public.

Toyota’s 100 Cars for Good program will showcase five non-profit organizations each day for 100 days on Toyota’s Facebook page, facebook.com/toyota. Visitors to the page can vote once a day for the organization that they feel is most deserving of a new Toyota vehicle.  Atlantic General Hospital will be one of the five organizations highlighted for voting on Sunday, June 19.

Local residents are encouraged to support Atlantic General Hospital and its quest for a new Toyota Sienna. If Atlantic General receives the most votes and is awarded the vehicle, it will replace one of the hospital’s current courier vans, which has logged close to 200,000 miles in its daily routes between the hospital and outlying physician offices in Worcester, Wicomico and Sussex counties.

Casual Designs A Retail Star

BERLIN — Casual Designs Furniture, owned by Richard Ludlam and located in Selbyville, Del. and Berlin, has been named one of Home Accents Today’s 50 Retail Stars for 2011 by editors of the premier trade magazine for the home accents industry.

The stores selected have demonstrated that they operate successfully in their marketing areas, exhibit strength in merchandising, display and/or advertising and have a positive presence in their local communities.

Home Accents Today editors focused on independent and family-run retailers, specifically those considered specialty, home accent or home furnishings stores. Members of the industry were invited to suggest stores and retailers were encouraged to submit information describing their businesses. This list was compiled and narrowed down by research analysts and editors of the publication.

“The 2011 Retail Stars represent some of the best independent stores in the country,” said Jenny Heinzen York, editor in chief. “In a harsh economic climate where mere survival has equaled success for many, this year’s Stars have faced down the challenges with innovation, creativity and fortitude. We salute these inspiring entrepreneurs, and as always, encourage everyone to support their own local businesses.”

The 50 Retail Stars feature, sponsored by Americasmart Atlanta, is published in the May 2011 issue of Home Accents Today.
