BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity softball team’s early season unbeaten streak came to an end on Monday as the Seahawks ran into a buzz saw and fell to visiting Parkside, 10-0.

Decatur had made it look fairly easy through the first portion of the schedule, cruising to a 4-0 record while outscoring their opponents by a combined 40-6. In their last two games before falling to Parkside on Monday, the Seahawks beat Mardela, 8-0, and Washington, 20-0.

However, the Seahawks had the tables turned on them when they faced the Rams on Monday, falling, 10-0, for their first loss of the season. The typically potent Decatur line-up couldn’t figure out Rams’ starter Brittany Donalds, who struck out 10 Seahawks on the way to the shutout win. Decatur’s Maddie Justice turned in a decent outing, striking out 10 also, but the Parkside bats were clicking on Monday.

Before the shutout loss to the Rams on Monday, the Seahawks routed Washington, 20-0, last Thursday to keep the early season winning streak alive. Justice went three innings and struck out seven of the nine batters she faced to dominate the Jaguars. Meanwhile, the Decatur offense was led by Jessica Iacona, who had four hits and drove in five runs, along with Kylie Nottingham, who had four hits and drove in four.

The Seahawks will look to get back in the win column this afternoon with a road game against Wicomico, followed by a home game against Pocomoke next Tuesday.
