Friday, March 5–Missing Mom’s Body Identified

SNOW HILL – The State Medical Examiner’s Office last week confirmed the human remains found on the grounds of a Snow Hill bed-and-breakfast were the remains of Christine Sheddy, a mother of three reported missing in Pocomoke in November 2007.

Last Friday, the Office of the Medical Examiner for Maryland advised the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation (WCBI) the human remains unearthed on the property of the River House Inn, a bed and breakfast on East Market Street in Snow Hill were the remains of Christine Marie Sheddy, who was 27 at the time she was first reported missing on Nov. 13, 2007. On Feb. 19, WCBI detectives developed information on the location of possible human remains on the property of the bed and breakfast in Snow Hill.

A Worcester County’s forensic investigator for the state’s Chief Medical Examiner’s Office responded and examined the deceased. The remains were than transported to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office for identification and an autopsy. A week later, it was confirmed the remains were Sheddy.

Sheddy, then 27, of Bowers Beach, Del., was last seen in the Byrd Street area of Pocomoke. She left her home in Delaware in November 2007 with her two young sons, ages two and four at the time, in tow to live with friends in Pocomoke.

On Nov. 13, 2007, the couple Sheddy was staying with in Pocomoke left the residence to pick up their own children at school. When the couple returned, Sheddy was gone and her two young sons were left home alone. She was reported missing and a massive search effort throughout much of the south end of Worcester County was undertaken to no avail. For over two years, Sheddy’s disappearance was handled as a missing person’s case by the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office and WCBI. Assisting in the investigation over the last two years were the Maryland State Police and the Worcester County State’s Attorney’s Office.

With the remains found in Snow Hill were confirmed as those of Sheddy, the case has moved from a missing person’s case to an investigation, although no cause of death has been announced.

According to one source, Sheddy’s remains were identified through dental records. According to Worcester County State’s Attorney Joel Todd, law enforcement agencies are treating the case as a suspicious death, but because the investigation is pending, no further details have been disclosed.
