BERLIN- The Berlin Seahawks Pee-Wee football team beat the host Cape Sharks, 15-7, last Sunday to complete a perfect 8-0 regular season and capture the Pop Warner Henlopen Conference championship.

The Seahawks entered last Sunday’s regular season finale shootout with the Cape Sharks with their perfect regular season record and a conference championship on the line and responded with a solid effort on both sides of the ball. Berlin got on the board first with a touchdown on a kick return by Colin Ganer. Berlin’s Dryden Brous ran in the two-point conversion and the Seahawks took an early 8-0.

Shortly thereafter, Berlin’s Sam Coates ran in for a touchdown and Justin Meekins kicked the extra point to extend the Seahawks’ lead to 15-0. The Cape Sharks rallied, scoring a touchdown and an extra point to cut the lead to 15-7. However, the Sharks’ attempt at a comeback in the game fizzled when Berlin’s Sam Coates recovered a fumble as time ran down in the contest.

With the conference championship in hand and the perfect regular season intact, the undefeated Seahawk Pee-Wee team is now preparing for the Pop Warner regional playoffs starting next Sunday, November 8, at Wesley College in Dover. The Berlin Jr. Pee Wee Pop Warner team also beat Cape last weekend, downing the Sharks, 20-0. The Junior Seahawks will play their first regional playoff game at home next Saturday. Meanwhile, the Berlin Mighty Mites lost to Cape but will play a bowl game tomorrow in Salisbury
