Up and Down Week for Mallards

BERLIN- It was an up and down first week of the season for Worcester Prep’s girls’ varsity soccer team as the Mallards beat ESIAC rival Salisbury Christian, 3-1, last Thursday before falling to Delaware power St. Andrews, 4-0, on Tuesday.

With strong, veteran seniors at key positions all over the field, Worcester has a chance to win every time it takes the field. After a topsy-turvy first week of the season, the Mallards’ record now stands at 1-1 as they make their way through a tough early stretch of the season.

The Mallards got out of the box with a strong showing against Salisbury Christian in the home opener last week, beating the Jaguars, 3-1, in the home opener. After Friday’s scheduled match with Saints Peter and Paul was washed out, Worcester hit the road on Tuesday for a touch match against always-tough St. Andrews in Delaware and fell 4-0. While the offense sputtered, Worcester keeper Marissa Grimes was outstanding with 20 saves.
