OCEAN CITY- Salisbury State University women’s head basketball coach Charisse Mapp is joining the Ocean City Recreation and Parks Department to host a basketball camp at Northside Park next week.
The camp is open to girls ages 7-17 and will be held under the direction of Coach Mapp and her assistants. Participants will practice drills to improve their shooting, passing, dribbling and other techniques and will also be taught the intricacies of the sport. Much of the time will be spent doing drills, but there will also be ample opportunity for simulated games and real games between the participants.
Mapp is a 1989 graduate of the University of North Carolina where she played for the Tarheels. She served as an assistant coach at Temple University for four years before returning south to East Carolina University where she served as coach and recruiting director.
Mapp also spent five years under the guidance of Hall of Fame basketball coach Kay Yow. Her basketball travels also took her to South America to coach the Athletes in Action team for six weeks in Bolivia and finished that campaign with a 10-1 record.
Mapp and her staff are proven coaches on the collegiate and high school levels with the experience and qualifications to help young players achieve their personal goals in the sport. The camp will be held from Monday, August 3, to Thursday, August 6 at Northside Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. For more information, contact the Rec Department at (410) 213-0125.
