Seahawks Upset Snow Hill, 69-59

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s boys’ varsity basketball team continued its late season run of good fortune this week, upsetting Worcester County rival Snow Hill, 69-59, on Tuesday for its third win in the last four games.

The Seahawks toppled the Eagles in front of a full house at home on Tuesday behind a balance scoring attack led by Tre Foreman, who finished with 21 points. Tom Lubeski scored 14 points and Tim Donnelly added 12. The win over Snow Hill was huge for the Seahawks, who have now won two in a row and three of the last four. Snow Hill has been at or near the top of the Bayside South standings for much of the year, while the Seahawks have languished at the bottom.

Signs the much-improved Seahawks could at least hang with their county rivals started to appear when Decatur lost to Snow Hill by a narrow 72-68 margin back on January 28. Since then, the Seahawks beat Parkside at home, 53-44; lost to North Caroline, 60-43, on the road; beat Crisfield at home last Thursday, 56-35; and, most recently, beat Snow Hill, 69-59.

Decatur started the season with six straight losses before winning their first game against Kent Island on December 22. The Seahawks did win one of its games in a holiday tournament, but then reeled off 10 more losses in a row before its recent turnaround. Decatur wraps its regular season tonight on the road against Parkside, a team it beat at home just two weeks ago. With wins coming more frequently in recent games, maybe the Seahawks are getting hot in time for the state playoffs.
