BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s girls’ varsity soccer team dropped a tough one this week, falling to conference leading and unbeaten Parkside, 3-1, at home on Tuesday.

The Seahawks put the only blemish on the Rams’ otherwise spotless record this season, a 1-1 tie, in the season opener back on September 10. Otherwise, Parkside is unbeaten and sits atop the Bayside Conference South standings. Decatur was hoping to improve on their earlier success when the Rams came visiting on Tuesday, but Parkside came away with a hard-fought 3-1 win.

Parkside scored first on a bomb of a shot from the perimeter past leaping Seahawk keeper Leigh Ann Flounlacker to take a 1-0 lead halfway through the first half. The score remained 1-0 at the intermission, but Parkside got back on the board just a minute into the second half to extend its lead to 2-0. Decatur got on the board less than a minute later when Julia Finecey fired a shot from way out that first hit the crossbar before falling behind the goal line, cutting the lead to 2-1.

Parkside added an insurance goal with just over 20 minutes left in the game and held on for the 3-1 win. The Seahawks play county rival Snow Hill on the road this afternoon.
