Team Joins Prudential

BERLIN – Linda Moran’s Team Moran has just joined the West Ocean City office of Prudential Carruthers Realtors.

Morgan is licensed in Maryland and Delaware. She has received the National Sales Award in recognition for being in the top 5% of all Real Estate Sales Professionals in America. She holds the CRS, RRS, SRES and GRI designations.

Business, Tourism Leaders Recognized

OCEAN CITY – The Worcester County Economic Development and Tourism Departments announced both the Business and Tourism Persons of the Year for 2008 at their annual luncheon, which was held at the Carousel Resort Hotel this week.

Matt Odachowski, chief executive officer and owner of Royal Plus, Inc. in Snow Hill, has been named the 2008 Worcester County Economic Development Business Person of the Year. Odachowski has worked to grow skill-based business in the community by increasing his own workforce from just 56 employees in 2007 to over 100 employees in 2008. He strives to provide area residents with the job skills and training they need to enjoy greater job satisfaction.

Past recipients of the Economic Development award include Ronald Bettini, Executive Director for Hawk Institute for Space Sciences; Diane Nolte, owner of Snow Hill Business Center and organizer of the Lower Shore Broadband Cooperative; George Tunis, owner/operator of Hardwire; Wally Gordon of Mid-Atlantic Foods; David Landsberger of Bel Art Products; Ken Pusey of Paul Jones Lumber Company; and Bill Reagan and Larry LeDoyan of Red Sun.

Jim Rapp, a voice for resource development and conservation planning, has been named the 2008 Tourism Person of the Year for his dedicated efforts to grow nature-based tourism in Worcester County. Rapp currently serves as the Director of Delmarva Low Impact Tourism Experience, Inc., dedicating his time to promoting the enjoyment and protection of the environment and local culture to generate income, employment and the conservation of productive ecosystems.

Past recipients of the Tourism award include James and Sudie Gatling, both retired Worcester County public school teachers and community volunteers; Ann Coates, of the Snow Hill Alliance for Responsible Progress; Dave Wilson, Executive Director of the Maryland Coastal Bays Program; Ruth Rhynalds-Waters of the Harrison Group; Dr. Leonard Berger of the Clarion Fontainebleau; Larry Points of the Assateague National Seashore; and Kathy Fisher of the Furnace Town Historic Site.

Airport Sales Record

OCEAN CITY – The Ocean City Municipal Airport landed into the record books for monthly sales in August, with 27,174 gallons of fuel sold over the month. That marked an increase of over 4,000 gallons in aviation fuel sales compared to August 2007 when 23,380 gallons were sold.

"Overall we had an excellent summer of activity at the airport," said Airport Manager George Goodrow.

The municipal airport recorded 574 transactions or sales in August 2007. This year the number of sales climbed to 739.

Fuel sales for the entire summer of 2008 reached 68,617 gallons, compared to 58,420 gallons sold over the summer of 2007.

"The Ocean City Airport is proving to be a popular hub for private aviation in the area," said Public Works Director Hal Adkins. "Even with uncertainty in the economic times that we are currently facing, activity at the airport continues to grow. There is currently a waiting list for hangar space and we are exploring costs for a new five-unit hangar that would help meet the demand."

Doctor Joins Office

OCEAN VIEW, Del. – Danielle Giddins, MD recently joined Peninsula Regional Medical Group’s Ocean View Family Medicine practice in Millville, Del. Community members are invited to attend an open house on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the office, between 4 and 6 p.m. for light refreshments and to meet with Giddins and the Ocean View Family Medicine staff.

Board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, Dr. Giddins received her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. She completed both an internship and a residency in Family Medicine at Malcolm Grow Medical Center at the Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. Giddins, formerly in the United States Air Force, comes to Ocean View Family Medicine from the Pope Air Force Base Primary Care Clinic in North Carolina, where she served as a faculty member.

CAR Holds Membership Meeting

OCEAN CITY – The Coastal Association of Realtors® (CAR) held its General Membership Meeting last month at Seacrets with over 150 CAR members in attendance.

Greg Holland, President-Elect, welcomed CAR members and introduced Sheila Dodson to the members as the new Coastal Association of Realtors® Executive Vice President. Dodson has over 20 years experience in the real estate industry and has served on various CAR committees during that time.  Director Chris Jett presented the 2008 CAR Realtor® Of the Year Award to Cassie Mead, Sales Agent with Prudential Carruthers.

The meeting also included a contest for the CAR 2008 RPAC Idol. Ed Galyon, Sales Agent with Coldwell Banker, emceed the event. The winner of the contest was Pam Wadler of Shamrock Realty Group. Other Idol participants were Hal Chernoff of ERA Martin & Associates, Shirley O’Neill of Coldwell Banker and Tim Ulrich of Prudential Carruthers.

Partnership Prize Announced

SALISBURY – The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore announces its 25th anniversary Partnership Prize, an award designed to recognize and encourage collaboration among nonprofit organizations serving Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore.

Funded through the CFES Community Initiative Grant Program, this award was developed to honor the Community Foundation’s quarter century of service to the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland. The Prize seeks to inspire nonprofit leaders to collaborate with similar organizations that would typically compete for clients and resources.

By encouraging local partnerships with a financial incentive, the Community Foundation hopes to develop more efficient and effective programs to meet critical needs in the community. Following a thorough review and selection process, up to three $25,000 grants will be awarded to organizations recognized for their outstanding collaborative efforts to enhance the quality of life for residents of the Lower Eastern Shore. The prizes must be used for charitable purposes to improve the community.

Nominations will be accepted starting Nov. 7, with a final deadline of Jan. 30, 2009 at 4 p.m. Copies of the nomination guidelines are available upon request by calling 410-742-9911 or by visiting the Community Foundation’s website at www.cfes.org.
