Model Opening Event Set In Bethany Beach

BETHANY BEACH, Del. – Sunset Harbour at Bethany Beach, located on White’s Creek, is holding a special Model Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday, July 12 from 4-8 p.m.

Hospital Scores Distinction

SALISBURY – Peninsula Regional Medical Center, through the work of its Orthopaedic & Rehabilitation Center team, has become the first hospital or medical center in Maryland, Delaware or Washington, DC to earn The Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval, Disease-Specific Care Certification in Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement Surgery.

Peninsula Regional, at the time the certification was awarded in late June, was just the 63rd hospital or medical center in the United States to hold this prestigious honor.

“We and our patients are fortunate to have a very skilled and highly engaged surgical, nursing and rehabilitative team that is dedicated to orthopaedics and extremely interested in continuously improving a patient’s clinical experience, from pre-operative teaching to individualized post surgical recovery plans,” said Alan Newberry, Peninsula Regional’s President/CEO.

To earn the certification, Peninsula Regional had to undergo an extensive on-site survey by The Joint Commission, evaluating the Medical Center’s Orthopaedic & Rehabilitation Center against stringent Joint Commission quality and safety standards. Those processes included patient care, education, clinical practice guidelines and surgical outcomes.

During the on-site survey, the Orthopaedic & Rehabilitation Center team was commended for having a very solid program with impressive physician involvement, led by Thomas Brandon, MD, Chief of the Division of Orthopaedics, and an extremely knowledgeable nursing staff.

“This certification means Peninsula Regional does the right things and does them well for total hip and total knee replacement patients,” added Jean E. Range, MS, RN, CPHQ, The Joint Commission’s Executive Director of Disease-Specific Care Certification.

Survey Backs Urban Living

BALTIMORE – Coldwell Banker® sales associates working in urban markets across the United States indicate they are seeing interest in urban living increasing because of the high cost of gasoline. While 96 percent of the 903 sales associates surveyed report that rising gas and oil prices are a concern to their clients, 78 percent report that higher fuel costs are increasing their desire to consider living in an urban setting.

According to the Coldwell Banker survey, the primary reasons for this interest in urban living are related to work commute and energy-efficient modes of transportation: 81 percent cite minimizing a reduced work commute as a reason for the interest in urban living; 54 percent agree that access to public transportation is appealing; and 75 percent agree that the ability to walk to more places is a positive.

“Over the past several years, we have seen a boom in downtown living all over the country and this is not just reserved to major cities,” said Jim Gillespie, president and chief executive officer of Coldwell Banker Real Estate. “It is interesting to note that the study showed that 53 percent of our surveyed sales associates have seen an increased interest in urban living compared to five years ago.”

“The trend of downtown living is alive and well in Baltimore City,” said Sarah Sinnickson, president of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Greater Baltimore. “Baltimore has a wealth of wonderful neighborhoods and cultural attractions which will always make city living a popular choice.

Coldwell Banker surveyed sales associates who also reported they have seen an 84 percent spike in interest for properties with a home office, as compared to five years ago, indicating a trend towards telecommuting.

While the study also found that 64 percent of surveyed sales associates nationally report their clients increasingly look for homes with “green” amenities that could save on heating, cooling and electricity costs, only 42 percent surveyed believe saving on energy costs are a reason for their client’s interest in urban living.
