The old guy came across a list of someone’s top animated movies of all time the other day. Everyone’s got a list, but this particular gathering belonged to an outfit called the American Film Institute, which apparently has some type of clout in Hollywood. Insider has long been a fan of the Disney classics and to no one’s surprise they topped the list. There’s something about the way old Walt did these movies that makes them timeless. They are still as fascinating today as they were back then, even though they do not have all the fancy computer work most animated movies have today. For what it’s worth, here’s how these guys ranked them:

1. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)

2. Pinocchio (1940)

3. The Lion King (1994)

4. Fantasia (1940)

5. Bambi (1942)

6. Beauty and the Beast (1991)

7. Shrek (2001)

8. Toy Story (1995)

9. Cinderella (1950)

10. Finding Nemo (2003)

Insider has seen all of these with the exception of Shrek and Finding Nemo. It’s hard to argue with this list, but Insider would rework the top five to be Pinocchio, Cinderella, Bambi, Snow White and Fantasia.

On the same sheet was a list of the top 100 movies of all time. The top 10 were:

1. Citizen Kane (1941)

2. Casablanca (1942)

3. The Godfather (1972)

4. Gone With The Wind (1939)

5. Lawrence of Arabia (1962)

6. The Wizard of Oz (1939)

7. The Graduate (1967)

8. On The Waterfront (1954)

9. Schindler’s List (1993)

10. Singin’ In The Rain (1952)

Insider is an old-movie buff so he almost choked on his coffee when nowhere to be found in the top 10 was Insider’s favorite movie of all time, The African Queen. Others notably absent were It’s A Wonderful Life, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre and To Kill A Mockingbird. Apparently these made the top 100 list, but no top 10 could be complete without these classics. To make room for these, Insider would bump out of the top 10 The Graduate, Schindler’s List, On The Waterfront and Singin’ In The Rain.
