OCEAN CITY – This week the City Council unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance that calls for the purchase of a property to be utilized by the water department, a purchase that carries a $389,000 price tag.
At a regular session of the Mayor and Council this week, the first reading of ordinance 2008-1 was presented. The ordinance calls for the Mayor and Council to approve the purchasing of what will be known as 5102 Coastal Highway for a price of $389,000.
The property is being purchased by the town and will be used as part of the water distribution system. The property is slated to be the future site of a well house.
Perry Linz, Superintendent for the Water Department, explained that the site had been included in the master plan 15 to 20 years ago as a potential well site. He added that it is an idea location.
“It’s there and it’s the perfect opportunity to purchase the property,” Linz said.
Funding for the purchase of the property will come out of Water Department user fees.
The council voted unanimously, with Councilman Jay Hancock absent, to approve the ordinance on first reading.
