OCEAN CITY – Atlantic General Hospital’s 14th Annual Penguin Swim raised more than $67,000 this year.
Hundreds of philanthropic souls plunged into the Atlantic Ocean on a beautiful and mild New Year’s Day in front of the Princess Royale on 94th Street.
After the chilly dip, at a ceremony held at the beachfront hotel, teams and individuals who raised the most money in the swim were recognized with first-, second- and third-place prizes.
Individual winners were “Woody” Butch German, first place, $2,575; Georgia Speier, second place, $725; and Carrie Hall, third place, $600.
Team winners were Bull on the Beach, first place, $32,500; AGH Frostys, second place, $6,840; and Ocean City Parrotheads, third place, $5,460.
Special recognition was also given to the oldest and youngest swimmers. The youngest swimmer was LucyAnn Kaufhold at two months, 25 days, while the oldest swimmers were Paul and Lorayn Whitson, who are 65-plus.
Penguins that raised $25 were given the choice of a drawstring cinch sack, beanie hat or mittens. Those who raised $75 received a silk-screened long sleeve T-shirt. Penguins who raised $150 earned a silk-screened sweatshirt, and those who raised $250 received a beach chair with carrying bag or two beach towels.
