Chetelat Finishes 5th at States

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s standout cross-country runner Lindsey Chetelat turned in a great performance at the state Class 3A championship meet last weekend, finishing fifth in the field on 147 competitors from all over the state.

Chetelat was the lone representative from Decatur or anywhere else on the Eastern Shore at the state championship meet at Hereford High in Baltimore County last Saturday. She acquitted herself well carrying her school’s banner at the state meet, finishing fifth among some of the top female cross country runners in the state.

Chetelat completed in course in 20:41, or about a minute and five seconds behind the winner, Kristen Malloy of Hereford, who finished in 19:36. Chetelat posted a first split time of 6:16 and a second split time of 13:43 as she ran at a 6:40 pace for the mile. Howard High’s Elyse Borisko finished second at 19:40, while Addie Tousley of Bethesda-Chevy Chase finished third at 20:10 and Shelby Meadowcroft of Hereford finished fourth at 20:32.

The strong showing by Chetelat at the state championship meet concluded a highly successful season for Decatur’s top female harrier. She won the Bayside Conference championship and finished second two weeks ago in the Class 3A-East qualifying event to earn a spot in the state championship meet. Neither of Decatur’s cross-country squads qualified for the team competition at states this year, making Chetelat the lone representative for the school at the event.
