Berlin Fiddlers Event Breaks Record

BERLIN – There were 35 entries including nine bands in the competition portion of the 15th Annual Berlin Fiddlers Convention last weekend.

Event organizer Steve Frene reported this week the three-day event broke an attendance record with an estimated 2,800 people in Berlin on Friday night; 5,000 on Saturday; and 1,000 on Sunday.

Here’s a look at how the contestants finished:

-Youth Guitar: First place, Rose Randolph, Front Royal, Va.

-Adult Guitar: First place, Keith Dill, Winchester, Va.; second place, Marshal Oberholtzer, Lancaster, Pa.; and third place, Mickey Justice, Salisbury.

(BULLET)Youth Banjo: First place, Justin Klaverweiden, Hampstead, Md.; second place, Max Randolph, Front Royal, Va.; and third place, AJ Griffin, Scranton, Pa.

-Adult Banjo: First place, Wes Parks, Bloxom, Va. (two-time defending champion); second place, Lance Seal, Richmond, Va.; and third place, Bob Sutor, Yardley, Pa.

-)Youth Mandolin: First place, Frankie Nanna, Berlin.

-Adult Mandolin: First place, Josh Vance, Salisbury: second place, Keith Dill, Winchester, Va.; and third place, Mickey Justice, Salisbury.

-Youth Fiddle: First place, Veronica Randolph, Front Royal, Va. (2006 winner); second place, Shelby Gold, Leesburg, Va.; and third place  Rose Randolph, Front Royal, Va.

-Adult Fiddle: First place, Keith Dill, Winchester, Va.; second place, Ron McVey; and third place, Dale Mary Tubbs, Berlin.

-Bluegrass Band: First place, Gold Heart, Leesburg, Va.; second place, Soggy Backside Boys, Delmarva; and third place, Borderline, Yardley, Pa.
