Frances Lorraine Sprankle Kennedy
BERLIN – Frances Lorraine Sprankle Kennedy, 79, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury from complications from heart surgery.
She was the wife of John H. “Jack” Kennedy for 48 years. He preceded her in death in July 1999.
Born Feb. 16, 1929, she was the daughter of the late William B. and Rita J. Crutchley Sprankle Wells.
Kennedy was a graduate of Saint John’s Literary Institute in Frederick and the Mercy Hospital nursing program in Baltimore. She was a registered nurse, who worked at Frederick Memorial Hospital and in private duty at several area hospitals during her career specializing in geriatric nursing. She worked for Frederick County Public Schools as a school nurse at West Frederick Middle School and at Hood College before her retirement.
She was a long-time member of Saint John’s Catholic Church in Frederick and Saint Peter the Apostle’s Catholic Church in Libertytown. She was also a member of Saint Andrew/Saint Luke’s Catholic Church in Ocean City.
Kennedy, affectionately known to her family as “Mam Maw,” was very active in tennis in the Frederick area for many years through tennis associations and various tournaments. She continued her participation when she retired to Ocean City and most recently in Fort Myers, Fla. She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and watching college basketball, especially the Maryland Terrapins. She was a volunteer for the Ocean City Democratic Club and her local community association. She was an assistant and usher at Saint Andrew/Saint Luke’s Catholic Church. She often gave of her time and efforts to her family, many friends and neighbors and will be missed by those whose life she had touched and inspired.
Kennedy is survived by three sons, David Kennedy and wife Kris of Frederick, Patrick Kennedy and wife Cornelia of Greenbelt, and Michael and wife Karen of Frederick; six grandchildren, Daniel, Sean, Andrew, Ryan, Kelsi and Camryn Kennedy; and three sisters, Jane Engelbrecht and husband Joseph of Fayetteville, Pa., Barbara Bridges of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Cheryl Schrantz and husband Thomas of Glenshaw, Pa. She will also be remembered by her special companion, George McFarland of Ocean City.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Charles E. Wells; step-brother, Charles Wells of Greenbelt; and step-sisters, Christine Phillips of Leesburg, Va. and Mary Elizabeth Wells of Alexandria, Va.
A local memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23 in Ocean City at Saint Luke’s Catholic Church.

Roy Squares
BERLIN – Roy Squares, age 60, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007 at Green Valley Pavilion Nursing Home in Smyrna, Del.
Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Leroy and Elizabeth Jarvis Squares. Squares attended the University of Cincinnati where he received a Bachelor of Music, and American University where he received a Master’s of Arts-Arts Administration. He began his career as a music teacher with the Montgomery County Board of Education teaching in Rockville. He had been a campaign manager for Pete Steege for Congress, a political representative for American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees and had been a substitute teacher with the Worcester County Public Schools.
Squares is survived by his son, John A. Squares, and a grandson, Jack of Cheshire, England.
Cremation followed his death. No formal services are scheduled at this time. Interment will be private. Arrangements are by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin. Letters of condolence may be sent to the family at www.delmarvaobits.com.
Lawrence Wimbrow
BERLIN – Lawrence Wimbrow, 84, died peacefully in his home on Tuesday morning Sept. 18, 2007.
He is survived by his loving wife, Olivia of Berlin and son and daughter-in-law. David and Cindy Wimbrow of Berlin.
He is also survived by his sons, Thomas, Lawrence, Steve and Scott Wimbrow, Also by his daughters Susan Shacter, Pamela Harrington, and Cathy Cardall. He’s also survived by his brother, Charles S. Wimbrow of Charlette, N.C. and 26 grandchildren.

Robert G. Nickel
BERLIN — On Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, Robert G. Nickel, age 55, died suddenly.
Nicel was the devoted father of Nicole E. Baracco, loving son of Margaret S. Collins and the late John “Bud” Nickel, Jr. and dear brother of John H. Nickel, III and Charles F. Shoul, III.
Nickel was fishing at “Stinky Beach” and Old Bridge Road in Ocean City that Saturday when he died due to accidental drowning. Nickel was a resident of Ocean City for the past 15 years and formerly of Bowleys Quarters, Md. and was employed as an electrician. He will always be loved and missed by his family and friends.
A private cremation was held. A memorial service was held at the family-owned Bruzdzinski Funeral Home P.A. in Essex, Md.
John Joseph Dawson, Jr.
BERLIN – John Joseph Dawson, Jr. age 75, entered eternal life on Sunday, Sept, 16, 2007 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late John J. Dawson, Sr. and Catherine Fiescler Dawson, He is survived by his beloved wife, Anna G (nee McCloskey) Dawson, his sister-in-law, Helen McCloskey; two brothers, Robert Dawson and his wife, Linda and Joseph Dawson and his wife, Carol; four nephews, Patrick Mooney and his wife, Jane, John Dawson and his wife, Julia, James Dawson and his wife, Joann and Jeffrey Dawson; two nieces, Cheri Kennedy and her husband, Jason, and Deborah Dawson; and great nieces and nephews, Lieutenant Commander Joseph Mooney and his wife Terry, Claire Mooney and her companion, William Gillen, Bridget Mooney Aponik and her husband, Joseph, and John Mooney and his wife Jennifer. Also survived by many more great nieces and nephews as well as many caring and supportive friends and neighbors.
He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 9053 in Ocean City and volunteered his services in support of the Knights’ many charities. He also enjoyed participation in the Delmarva Irish American Club. He was an avid and unabashed New York Giants football fan his whole life.
Dawson was a US Army veteran. He was a graduate of St. John’s University in New York and worked as a computer programmer for I.T.O. Shipping.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Ocean Pines. A graveside service will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery, 1215 Super Highway, Langhorne, Pa.

Robert T. Sheridan, Sr.
BERLIN – Robert T. Sheridan, Sr., age 60, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.
Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John Alfred Sheridan and Myrtle Viola Ketchum Sheridan. He was the beloved husband of Doris L. Sheridan and beloved father of Robert T. Sheridan, Jr. of Berlin and Kathleen Torres and her husband Scott of York, Pa. He is also survived by a brother, Thomas Daniel Sheridan and his wife Antoinette of Dundalk, Md.; a brother-in-law Vernon Oliver and his wife Pat of Baltimore; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sheridan was a United States Army veteran. He had worked as a Mechanic for Mercedes-Benz. He was a member of the Berlin VFW, loved photography, model airplanes, collected antique model cars and played the guitar.
A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin. Friends may call on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
