Nurses Make Presentation

BERLIN – Atlantic General Hospital’s surgical nursing staff
was selected to present a clinical innovation at the AORN 54th Annual Congress,
which is attended by nearly 7,000 perioperative professionals each year.

AGH’s OR nurses submitted an abstract to AORN after
participating in a cadaver lab held at the Maryland State Anatomy Board in June
2006. During the day-long lab, 12 surgical team members reviewed anatomy,
performed mock surgical procedures and practiced first assist skills under the
guidance of Thuan Dang, M.D., who is a surgeon at Atlantic General Hospital.

The cadaver lab’s innovation lies in the additional hands-on
training that nurses working toward their first assist certification receive
before using their skills with a live patient in the OR.

In addition to presenting at the AORN Congress, AGH’s OR
nurses are recognized with a publication of their abstract in the AORN Congress
manual. This resource handbook summarizes presentations and is a tool used by
attendees to plan their itinerary during the event.
