Mallards’ Unbeaten Streak Ends

1/25/2013 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity basketball team’s dream of a perfect season ended last week when the Mallards suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of old Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC) rival Salisbury School.

Throughout the season, Worcester had compiled an impressive 13-0 record including a 6-0 mark in the conference heading into the showdown with Salisbury School at home last Friday. Something had to give, however, as the Dragons were also unbeaten with a 5-0 record in the ESIAC.

Worcester never really got its offense on track and Salisbury School ended the Mallards’ unbeaten run with a 40-29 win. Salisbury School’s Dylan Shaheen led all scorers with 24 points, while Matt Reilly and Harrison Brennan led Worcester with nine points each. The two rivals face off again in Salisbury on February 6, the first game back for Worcester after the winter break.
