Sabres Top Mallards in 3rd Leg of Trilogy

11/02/2012 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s girls’ varsity soccer team lost to familiar old rival Saints Peter and Paul in the ESIAC championship game last Friday, 1-0, in overtime, putting a punctuation mark on the epic trilogy between the two teams this season.

It’s always special when Worcester Prep and Saints Peter and Paul face off in any sport and last Friday’s girls’ varsity ESIAC championship game was no different. Worcester beat Salisbury School, 4-1, in the semifinals last Wednesday to set up a third tense matchup with the Sabres in the championship game. The Mallards lost to Saints Peter and Paul, 2-1, in overtime back on September 10. On October 22, the two rivals played to a 1-1 tie in overtime after the contest could not be decided in regulation.

Last Friday in the ESIAC title game, the Mallards and the Sabres played to a 0-0 tie in regulation during a tense, well-played game by both teams. In the end, however, the Sabres edged the Mallards, 1-0, in overtime to claim the ESIAC title.
