We Remember Those We Have Lost

OCEAN CITY -- Marilyn Lee Foster Cox died peacefully on Sunday, July 9 surrounded by her five children at the Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. She was 85.

She was a third generation Washingtonian and grew up in Chevy Chase, Md. She attended the Academy of Holy Cross and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. She attended Harcum College in Philadelphia. She worked at Woodward and Lothrops and Earlbachers on F Street after modeling.

Marilyn married the love of her life, James Brennan Cox. They raised Jimmy, Sue, Frankie, Tracy and Freddy in Kensington and Chevy Chase, Md. She served as president of the Cosmopolitan Womens Club and forged lifelong friendships.

Marilyn welcomed life and its adversities, never backing down from challenges and living “one day at a time”.

She loved all that was DC and knew its streets, restaurants and shops like the back of her hand. She read the paper daily while enjoying her coffee and smokes after her husband Jim’s death.

She transformed their summer getaway named for mother-in-law “Honey” Marie Cox. She remodeled it to rave reviews, a second in what became her permanent home on 86th Street and renamed it “The Honey Too”. It was at the beach house that she enjoyed her final years with family and friends. It was the Honey/Gue that kept them close.

Her sister, Sally F. Conrad, preceded her in death and she is survived by her sister, Sue F. duFief and her children, Jim (Robin) Cox, Sue (Pat) Flynn, Frankie Cox Lucas, Tracy (Joe) Greaney and Fred (Chrissy) Cox; 10 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; treasured nephews and nieces; and countless friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Luke’s Catholic Church on 100th Street and Coastal Highway in Ocean City on Saturday, July 14 at 11 a.m.
