Rackliffe House Opens To Public Starting Next Week
BERIN -- The Rackliffe House Trust announced the dates for the Summer 2012 opening season of Rackliffe House during the "Back to the Rack" event, held on June 15.
The beautifully restored 18th-century coastal plantation house will be open on Thursdays from 1-4 p.m. beginning June 21. Additional opening days may be added as volunteers are trained to lead house tours.
The Trust thanked donors during the June 15 event. Many local families, businesses and organizations contributed to the construction of a colonial-style outbuilding that now houses a fire suppression system.
Visitors to the Rackliffe House are asked to park in the parking lot for the Assateague Island Visitor Center and walk a half-mile along Tom Patton Lane to the Rackliffe House.
Visitors unable to hike that distance are invited to drive to the end of the lane and park in the designated area. A $2 donation per person is suggested to tour the Rackliffe House. All donations support the continuing restoration efforts.
