OCEAN CITY- Hundreds of athletes from all over the region competed last weekend in a series of fitness events in and around the resort area culminating with the 4th Annual Assateague Assault Triathlon last Sunday.

Sponsored by OC Tri-Running, the three events got started last Saturday morning with the Ocean City Boardwalk 5-Mile Run. The race began at the Boardwalk Arch at North Division Street and the course went up to a turnaround point in mid-town Ocean City before returning to the Boardwalk. For the record, the top three finishers in the Boardwalk race were Thomas Yinger, David Schroeder and Brandon McPherson. A total of 96 runners competed in the race.

Later on Saturday, 51 competitors turned out for the Assateague Island One-Mile Sunset Swim. The event started at around 6:30 p.m. last Saturday and included a one-mile open ocean swim off the coast of Assateague State Park. Fifty-one competitors completed the ocean swim. Daniel Clemson of Salisbury finished first, followed by Christopher Stevens of Annapolis and David Spier of Salisbury.
