Coastal Style Expo Brings Magazine To Life

10/22/2010 | By Joanne Shriner, Staff Writer

OCEAN CITY - The 3rd Annual Coastal Style Luxury Living Expo will be taking place this weekend at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center.

Coastal Style Magazine is a publication that celebrates the luxury lifestyle of the Mid-Atlantic region. The complimentary magazine is distributed strategically to a targeted audience from Cape May, N.J. to Ocean City and even out to Annapolis. Editorial topics highlight the people, places and events that make the Mid-Atlantic region a truly special place to live and visit.

The show will allow the celebration of individuals that create the Eastern Shore into a luxurious place to live. It will consist of cooking demonstrations, informative seminars, chef competitions, antique appraisals and exhibitors displaying products and offering show specials. There will also be food, beer, wine spirit sampling, giveaways, as well as live entertainment.

'We have 75 different exhibitors. A wide variety of businesses, home and garden, travel, jewelry, restaurants, wineries, and breweries•€¦we like to call it Coastal Style Magazine comes to life,' Jon Westman, publisher of Coastal Style, said. 'If people are an avid reader of the magazine, they can imagine what they will see, feel and experience what we portray in print each issue.'

According to Westman, there will be three different tasting lounges, where a number of restaurants, wineries, and breweries will be on the floor. The public will be able to purchase a $1 tasting ticket, which will allow them to sample food, wine and beer.

Local restaurants in attendance include Fresco's, Antipasti, Micky Finns, The Rice House, Martin Fish Company, Salvatore's, Greene Turtle North and the Yummy Sweet Shop.

For example, Micky Finns will be serving three dishes - seared scallops, cream of crab soup and smoked salmon. All three can be tasted by acquiring the $1 tasting ticket.

'Another popular area is our Shore Appliance Connection/Viking Cooking area,' Westman said. 'In the demo section, local chefs cook recipes from their restaurants, it is very much like the Food Network. The chefs will provide tips, instructions, and their recipes with the public following each demo.'

A local chef that graduated from Stephen Decatur High School, Jamie Pruitt, will be back in town to exhibit his culinary skills. He now works at Wild Olives Restaurant located in Florida.

The demonstrations start at 11:30 am and run every half hour.

Paul Cullen will provide live entertainment along with Phil Knight and Blake Haley. All three artists will be rotating around the tasting lounges.

In addition this year, unlike previous years, there will be two new sections. An art section will exhibit a collection of 10-12 different artists. There will also be a wedding section exhibiting transportation, jewelry, event planners, venues, florists and dresses.

The Coastal Style Luxury Living Expo will be held at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center in Ocean City on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 23-24, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is $5, children under 12 get in for free, and it is an additional $1 for a tasting ticket.
