Coast Guard Rescues Man In Ocean

1/25/2013 | By News Editor, Shawn J. Soper

OCEAN CITY -- An unidentified man was rescued from the chilly water near the Ocean City Inlet wearing only his underwear last Sunday afternoon, according to U.S. Coast Guard officials.

Shortly after 3 p.m. last Sunday, Coast Guard Station Ocean City received a forwarded call from the local 911 operator reporting an unidentified man had been observed in the water about 100 yards or so from the north jetty at the Inlet. The Coast Guard Station immediately launched a 25-foot rescue boat and found the unidentified white male in his 30s or 40s still in the water.

According to the Coast Guard officer who drove the rescue boat, the man was wearing only underwear when he was pulled from the water by two other officers on board. The victim was taken to the Coast Guard Station nearby where Ocean City paramedics awaited. However, the victim refused treatment from paramedics on the scene and refused transport to a local hospital for treatment, according to the Coast Guard officer in charge of the rescue.
