Mallards Take ESIAC Championship

3/01/2013 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity basketball team capped off a remarkable season last week with a 58-51 win over Delmarva Christian in the Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC) title game.

The Mallards were strong all season and jumped out to a perfect 13-0 record before recording their first loss to Salisbury School back on January 18. Worcester went 2-3 down the stretch including two straight losses to close out the regular season, but put it all together in the ESIAC tournament.

The Mallards beat Salisbury Christian, 51-42, last Wednesday in the semifinals to reach the championship. In the title game, the Worcester boys withstood a couple of charges by a tough Delmarva Christian team to win the ESIAC championship, 58-51. With the pair of wins in the tournament, the Mallards finished another special season with a 17-3 record.
