BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity wrestling team remained unbeaten last week after sweeping a pair of meets from two Bayside North foes including Queen Anne’s, which had also not lost.
The Seahawks took on Queen Anne’s in a battle of unbeaten Bayside teams last Wednesday and held on for a 37-24 win after building a big early lead. Decatur swept the first four matches to take a 16-0 lead. Queen Anne’s got on the board to cut the lead to 31-6. Queen Anne’s then went on a mini-run in the upper weight divisions to cut the Decatur lead to 31-21 with two matches to go.
Queen Anne’s Eddie Gillin beat Decatur’s Ethan Eibl to cut the Seahawk lead to 31-24 with one match to go. However, Seahawk heavyweight Ryan Kail beat Queen Anne’s David Miller to make it 37-24 and preserve Decatur’s unbeaten record. Decatur also beat Cambridge-South Dorchester, 60-24, in the second leg of the tri-meet. The Seahawks were prepared to face rival Reservoir at home last Saturday but the meet was cancelled due to the weather conditions. It will not be made up.
