BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s girls’ varsity basketball team enjoyed a big week, beating Mardela, 58-47, last Thursday before routing Wicomico, 60-35, on the road on Tuesday.
Against Mardela last week, the Seahawks and Warriors went back and forth in the first half, which ended with Decatur leading by just four points. However, the Seahawks turned up the pressure with a full-court press, which forced several turnovers by the Warriors. As a result, Decatur went on a 13-0 run in the third quarter to push the lead to 43-30 and the Seahawks never looked back on their way to the 58-47 win. Abbey Schorr led Decatur with 17 points, while Dayona Godwin added 15, Erin Florek pitched in 10 and Monique Wise scored eight.
Decatur followed up the big win over Mardela with a relatively easy 60-35 win over Wicomico on Tuesday on the road. Schorr led Decatur with 19 points, while Godwin pitched in 18. The Seahawks played Indian River on the road last night in a game played too late to be included in this edition. The Decatur girls will face county rival Pocomoke at home next Tuesday. The Seahawks have already beaten Pocomoke twice this season.
