OCEAN CITY – The Town of Ocean City has committed to show its support by participating in “Purple Friday” today to cheer on the Baltimore Ravens into victory.
“I think everybody had a great weekend, especially those who are Ravens fans and I think what the Ravens have done is great for their fans, great for the State of Maryland, and great for Ocean City and all its businesses,” Mayor Rick Meehan said at the conclusion of this week’s Mayor and City Council work session.
The mayor pointed out that Ocean City in the past and currently has supported the Baltimore Ravens, as the NFL team has supported Ocean City. This past weekend the town posted “Go Ravens” on the Roland E. Powell Convention Center marquee to support the Maryland team.
“It is pretty exciting and I think everyone in town is pretty excited,” the mayor said. “With the big game on Sunday, in Baltimore and other areas they celebrate Purple Friday, and I would suggest that we do that in Ocean City.”
The Town of Ocean City officials agreed to show support for the Ravens after their AFC Divisional win last Saturday, by declaring this Friday, Jan. 18, as “Purple Friday.” City employees are also encouraged to show their “purple pride” as the Ravens prepare to continue their run in the playoffs.
“They are the State team, so even as a Cleveland fan I am here rooting for the Ravens,” Meehan said.
The Baltimore Ravens will face the New England Patriots on Sunday, Jan. 20, at 6:30 p.m.“We wish the players and the coaching staff well in New England,” said Meehan. “The Town of Ocean City will be cheering the Ravens all the way to the Super Bowl.”

Its very nice that OC has engaged itself with the Ravens - to include having a Ravens weekend here in OC once a year. Many of us travel from OC to Baltimore (Ravens and O's) and even Redskins Stadium to root for our beloved 'home' teams! Wonderful to hear about and see all the purple this past Friday and Friday evening!!!
